Sebastiani Domenici Vineyard Mourvedre 1996
Varietal: Mourvedre
Vineyard: Sebastiani Sonoma Cask Cellars
Region: Sonoma County, California
The Sebastiani Domenici Old Vines Mourvédre is a dark crimson color as a result of the mature fruit and volcanic soils in which it is planted. It has the classic Mourvédre notes of nutmeg and herbes de Provence, yet the Domenici Vineyard shows its unique depth of blackberry jam and licorice in both the aroma and the flavor. This wine is reminiscent of Bandol reds from warm vintages and is a fine expression of this grape, grown on rocky, well-drained soils with full sun exposure. Bottle aging further softened the finish and added truffle-like complexities to the aroma. Enjoyable now, it will further develop and improve over the next three to five years.
