Edmeades Zeni Zinfandel 1999
Varietal: Zinfandel
Vineyard: Edmeades
Region: North Coast, California
While it may not be polite to bring up age in mixed company, we often find ourselves bragging about the birth year of our Zinfandel vineyards. What's with that? Well, old-vine Zinfandel tastes different than young-vine Zinfandel. In general, old plants yield less fruit. While that doesn't neccessarily translate to darker color and more intensity, it does make a difference in the taste and personality of the wine. In our experience, old-vine Zinfandel has more complexity and character than the young ones. Our Zeni, for example, has enough personality for five wines. Planted in the early 1900s, this vineyard always stands apart for its lush texture and compelling bouquet. Toast, smoked meats, cherries, black pepper and cedar.
